Hampton and the Blitz.
This year is the 70th
anniversary of the Blitz.
Hampton's proximity to the
River Thames meant that it suffered bomb damage. One
such incident took the lives of two people outside
The Royal Oak on Oak Avenue. To mark
this occasion there will be an opportunity to
remember those affected by the blitz and to
celebrate our community on Sunday 7th
November
from
3 p.m. at The Royal Oak. A
plaque will be unveiled commemorating Sidney Till
and Bill Adams, and there will be food, music,
photos on display, and time to share stories about
local history. Bill's sons still live locally,
but if you have
any
information about Sidney, who lived on Courtlands Avenue, or Daisy and Bill
Kenaby, who ran The Oak from 1939 until the 1960s,
please contact Wendy at The Royal Oak on 8979 3943.
