ASSISTANT
CLERGY - MURRAY THOMSETT
I
was Born in 1932 and went to school in East Sheen, apart from
a few months I had in Pontypool in 1939. Then I joined Crusaders',
a non denominational Bible study organisation for young people,
became a Christian about 1944. I then attended Kingston Technical
College to study Electrical Engineering.
I
had a fill in job as projectionist at the Odeon Marble Arch, catching
the end of 3D and the beginning of CinemaScope, all good experience.
I then joined a large TV Corporation as an Installation Engineer,
(the one that does not advertise) specialising in film equipment,
and within that unit I specialised in film processing laboratories.
This involved a lot of travel both in U.K. and later, around the
world. As a side line made two films for Crusaders' and one for
the Christian Hospital Isfahan Iran.
I
married in 1964 to Anne and then became a Reader at local church,
Saint Richard of Chichester, Hanworth. During 1969-1992 and while
in overseas postings, I had my Readers licence transferred to
Singapore (Saint Andrew's Cathedral), and to Brunei.
I
was made redundant from the Large TV Corp. 1988 and in 1990 I
was accepted for ordination and was ordained 1992 as a Non Stipendiary
Minister (NSM), after one year at Oak Hill College. First curacy
at Saint Philip and Saint James Whitton, 1992-1995. Also Chaplain
to Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. In 1996 I moved
to Heathrow Chaplaincy Team, with responsibility for Terminal
Four and South side of the airport. Also I was licensed to All
Saint's Hampton as Curate.
As for my hobbies I ran the Sheen Stage Service, an amateur stage
lighting crew. Working for Barnes Operatic, local Scout Gang Shows,
and Crusaders'. At Westminster Central Hall, Royal festival Hall,
Albert Hall etc., and a busman's holiday, photography and films.
